Ms Chris McMillan – Chief Executive Officer

Currently serving as the Chief Executive Officer at Cancer Council Queensland, Chris McMillan is one of Australia’s most experienced not-for-profit executives. This is evidenced in her achievement of finalist recognition in the Telstra Business Women’s Awards 2019 (For Purpose and Social Enterprise).

Chris has been the figurehead of the charity since 2017 and has been recognised as a leading voice on cancer across Australia, with her passion and leadership capturing the attention of the country.

Her distinguished credentials include five years of service as the Leukaemia Foundation of Australia’s General Manager for New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory. Here, she was responsible for successfully transforming the organisation’s fundraising and service profile to enhance support for Australians affected by blood cancer.

Chris has previously served as the CEO of Australian Business Learning, Variety – the Children’s Charity (NSW & ACT), and the Fundraising Institute Australia.

Her expertise is drawn from leadership roles ranging across diverse industries, including information technology, learning and development, human resources, management consulting, and finance. She also has an early career background in nursing, which has informed many of her positions.

With an exemplary career, including two decades in the not-for-profit sector, she is widely recognised for her down-to-earth style and determination to make a difference. As Chief Executive Officer of Cancer Council Queensland, her wealth of knowledge in the field of health (specifically cancer), is complemented by her understanding of business and organisational development.
