Cancer Council Queensland is calling on women across the State to host a Girls’ Night In this October to raise funds for those affected by breast or gynaecological cancers.
Every day in Australia, 60 women are diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer – these are our mothers, our grandmas, daughters, sisters, and friends.
Girls’ Night In encourages people to catch up and donate the money they would have spent on a night out to support those in their life impacted by women’s cancers.
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Ms Chris McMillan urged women to have a night in with friends to make a difference.“Hosting a Girls’ Night In for Cancer Council Queensland is the perfect opportunity to get together with friends, while raising funds to support the one in six women who will be diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer in their lifetime,” Ms McMillan said.
“Breast and gynaecological cancers touch most people in one form or another – directly or through the experience of someone they know.
“Funds raised will help fund Cancer Council’s vital research into women’s cancers, prevention and advocacy programs, and support services to help those affected at every stage of their journey.”
Ms McMillan said Girls’ Night In was also a time for women to think about their health, ways they can reduce their cancer risk and detect cancer early.
“This is a great opportunity to reach out to your loved ones – show support, ask about their health, encourage them to get screened, or share healthy living tips,” she said.
Keep your Girls’ Night In simple with a movie night, pamper night or home-cooked meal. For ideas or tips on organising your Girls’ Night In or to register to host, visit girlsnightin.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
